How to mount an SSH drive on OS X Lion

Since Leopard, I've consistently had horrible experiences getting fancy FUSE clients to behave correctly, and apparently I'm not the only one (there's at least two of us!). Although written for OS X Mountain Lion, her solution works for me on OS X Lion as well.

Use Homebrew to install the dependencies (FUSE to allow user-space filesystems, and sshfs to mount up remote SSH systems):

$ brew install fuse4x
$ brew install sshfs

Follow the additional simple instructions provided by:

$ brew info fuse4x-kext

Finally, mount your SSH drive with GUI-free happiness:

$ mkdir mountpoint
$ sshfs user@ssh.example.com:/dir mountpoint
