A proper margarita

I find dehydrated margarita "mixes" to be offensively tangy substitutes for the real thing (basically sweet lime juice, perhaps with a hint of orange). It's incredibly simple to make a legitimate margarita, if you can find the correct ingredients (which, I'll admit, is quite easy here in the land of Tex-Mex).

Recipe

Combine:

  • 3 parts 100% agave blanco/white/silver tequila
  • 2 parts fresh lime juice (adjust to taste, according to their fresh vs caustic flavor)
  • 1 part triple sec (such as Cointreau, but not Grand Marnier)
  • 1 part simple syrup (optional, but highly recommended)

Pour into a frozen glass over cubed ice and garnish:
